How To Estimate Shipping Costs with the Major Shipping Companies, USPS, UPS and FedEx

Many of our customers have asked us a way to estimate shipping cost with our scales. Our Digiweigh Postal Shipping Scale includes an USPS Fees Chart under the platform's lid. The fees chart along with your USPS Zone Chart will help you estimate shipping cost with your Digital scale without a computer. In case you do not have the USPS Fees Chart and the USPS Zone Chart, you can downloaded here:

You can view step by step instruction on how to calculate USPS shipping chargers here:

If you have access to a computer and or want the most accurate shipping cost, please click on the link below that will take you to the USPS.com Calculate Postage Page:

UPS and FedEx offer a similar service in their website. Here is the Calculate shipping cost page for UPS:

Here is the page for FedEx:

Please keep in mind that you will need to provide the both the origination and destination zip code. Also, you will need to guess whether the address that you will be shipping is considered residential. If it its residential it will be a bit more expensive. Both UPS and FedEx charge more for residential deliveries. You will also need to know the weight of the package. That is where our Digital Scales come in handy. if you do not have one already, you can buy one from our Website Store here:

Unfortunately both UPS and FedEx have several price levels. The more you ship with them the better price they can give you. If you ship a few packages per month you will be paying more than a large customer that ships several packages per day. Plus they have a few surcharges that you do not find out until they send you a bill.

For the eBay sellers, you can also use eBay shipping cost calculator here:

That calculator will help you compare the difference between USPS and UPS shipping cost. That way you can get the best shipping cost and or faster service for the money.

If you are an eBay Powerseller, UPS offer a special pricing for powersellers. Just log in your powerseller page and search for UPS. You will find instructions of how to get the special rates.

Please be patient, there is much to learn and practice. We have a general shipping advice:

Most of packages under 13 ounces can be shipped shipped via USPS First Class Mail. The package arrives fast and it is very cost effective. For packages up to four pounds, we like the USPS Priority Mail, specially the Flat Rate Shipping Boxes. The USPS Just got smart and now offers three different size Flat Rate Boxes. You can get more info here:

USPS Priority Mail Information

Priority Mail packages usually arrive in 2 to 3 business days and the boxes that they provide for free look very professional.

For packages heavier than four pounds we usually use UPS or FedEx Ground services. The USPS is very slow and just as expensive for large packages. We only use USPS Parcel Post to ship heavy and bulky items to Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico.
