We love the fact that have three options with shipping programs cost, we can use Stamps.com, Express 1 and UPS pricing comparison. You can choose the lowest price on the fly. We like comparing between Stamps.com for the new USPS Regional A and B and Express 1 USPS Priority Mail. There are substantial price difference sometimes. For items larger that 5 pounds or bulky packages UPS has the best prices.

Auctane can generate any USPS label including, First class, Parcel Post, Media Mail and Priority Mail. We can even print USPS International First Class postage with the Zebra LP 2844 Thermal Printers. That was a first shipping program we could use our Zebra Thermal Printer with USPS International First Class. That makes it very convenient for international shipments under 4 pounds. UPS works just as well with the program.

One of the features we like the most in Actane is the ability to print a packing slips with a personalized message right after the shipping label with our Zebra Thermal Printer. That way we know what label goes with each package. With that personalized message, you can ask to your customers to leave you a five star feedback and/or contact you before leaving you feedback.
There are countless options you can write on the Packing Slip. You can put a coupon code, your website store, etc.

Auctane automatically emails the shipping notice with the tracking number and if requested, a personalized message. That is very important so your valued customers know exactly when the items were shipping and a general idea on when they will be receiving their package.

The system is internet based, there is no programs to install, it works within eBay. Because it is internet based, it works on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. It even works on smart phones like Android and iPhones. You can pull orders from eBay, PayPal and Amazon.

You can also copy an paste orders manually if you get orders over the phone. Do not need to paste line by line, just paste the whole address and the software will place the information in the right place. The software is very intuitive full of features and easy use.

After we pasted the complete address in to the box, the software automatically inserts the address in to the right spots. You have full control of the packing slip information like, price, description, unit price, shipping paid, who gets the shipping notice via email, etc.

The shipping labels are created in PDFs. It prints Packing slips along with the shipping labels as an option. We always know which label goes with each product to be shipped. That is a huge time saver for us. No longer use our regular printer. Our Thermal Zebra printer and our GoDex Printers do all our labels and packing slips from Auctane. You can set up an auto attendant with several extensions and options. You can make it look and sound very professional. Their support team actually answers your questions and help you with the set up process.

With those applications you can take advantage of this phone system without using your cellphone minutes. You juts have to be connected to a Wireless network or have a strong 3G coverage for best results.

We use the calculator all the time for a quick price check. We used to use the USPS Fees Chart but now the USPS has two prices. The one you pay at the Post Office and the one you pay in the Internet or if you are a commercial customer.
They are trying to compete with UPS and FedEx. Those shipping companies depending on how much business you do, the price the will quote you and charge you.

***IMPORTANT***

Please make sure to set up your driver to the right printer model name and number. In this case the LP 2844. Also before printing go to the Thermal Printer Properties on the Printers and Faxes Folder. Click on the Printer Preferences. Make sure to set up the printer to use the 4" X 6" paper. If you do not do that the printer might print only a part of the label or print it wrong. Also for better results set up the printing speed to 2. The menu to change speed setting is under device options, speed settings. You can also try different levels of darkness under device options, head settings, print darkness. Try the 10 setting.

Please try to play with the settings before assuming the printer is defective. Everyone uses a different shipping programs. Most of the programs we know are set up to take advantage of the thermal printers.

Unfortunately both UPS and FedEx have several price levels. The more you ship with them the better price they can give you. If you ship a few packages per month you will be paying more than a large customer that ships several packages per day. Plus they have a few surcharges that you do not find out until they send you a bill.

We love the USPS Priority Mail service for packages under four pounds because the boxes look very professional, They are 100% recyclable. They are provided to shippers free of charge. The Flat rate boxes usually cost less than any other shipping company expedited shipping. The USPS reaches most of addresses in the USA. They deliver to PO boxes and they do not charge a residential address delivery fee. What you pay is what it will cost, no additional hidden fees that get charged afterwards.
Please note that shipping to address in the same state or near by states, is less expensive of you use regular Priority Mail boxes. Shipping Flat rate might be a bit higher. If you can not use Priority Mail shipping for various reasons, you can always find free shipping boxes at your local super market. They throw away hundreds of cardboard boxes every day. If you ask we are sure they will have no problem giving them to you. You can also use crushed news papers. They work great as a free replacement of foam peanuts and are 100% recyclable.

How to Print PDFs in your Zebra Thermal Printer

We have requests from our customers to show them how to print PDFs with our Zebra LP 2844 Thermal Printers. We use our printer to print all our shipping labels, customers invoices, receipts and coupons. The nice part about the coupon is that they are self stick. You can put the coupon anywhere. We made the coupon with a word processor and made it into a PDF.
There is free program that can be downloaded from the Zebra.com site that is called Zebra Designer. The program will help you design any label for your printer. The reason we did not use it is because it was a bit hard to use and too technical. We have no experience with this program. Word processors are very easy to use. We did not use the word processor to print because the labels were not printing out right.

Here are the steps to print anything from PDFs with your Zebra Pinter:

First open your PDF file and go to your File Menu and click on Print Set Up option.

There you will see a new window. Then click on the drop down menu for the names of your printers. Click on the Zebra 2844. Click on Paper size drop down menu and choose 4 X 6 to make sure the program prints to the right size paper. Source, click on Continuous roll. Click OK

Go back to your File menu and click on the Print option.

A new window will pop up. Make sure to click on Page Scaling drop down menu and choose Shrink to Printable Area and click OK

You only have to do this once.

Zebra Printer Step By Step Instruction to Set it up with PayPal Shipping Services

Most of the customers buy the Thermal printers have experience working with them or are using shipping programs that work with thermal printers without the need to change settings or install any drivers.

This instructions apply to our customers that need help with the installation and set up of their Zebra 2844 Thermal Printer to work with your computer and PayPal's shipping services.

If you have not done so, please download the Printer Driver from here:

Best Zebra Thermal Driver Download

Please do not connect the printer until the driver has been installed. Follow the instructions and make sure to chose the driver for the Zebra UPS 2844.

After the driver has been installed, you can connect your printer. The computer will recognize the printer and automatically install the printer driver.

Now that the driver has been successfully installed go to your Printer and Faxes folder from the Start Menu:

The printer and Faxes Folder should look like the picture below. If you do not find the folder in your Start menu, go to the Control Panel and look for it there.

On the Printer and Faxes folder, look for the Zebra UPS 2844 that you just have installed. Click on it and you can either right click on the printer Icon and chose properties or click on the right hand side menu option that says Set printer properties.

When you click on the Click Preferences menu option you will see another window title Zebra UPS 2844 Properties. At the bottom of the window you will see a button called Printing Preferences. Then go to the Page Setup Tab to change the Thermal paper size also called the Stock. Please chose the 4 X 6 paper size by clicking on the drop down menu arroy like the picture below.

The click on the Options tab and uncheck the Used Current Printer settings and increase the Darkness to 13.
On Speed Settings, uncheck the Use Current Printer Settings and click on the drop down menu to chose the 2.00 in/sec.

After you are done please make sure you click on the Apply button at the bottom of the window.

We have played with several settings and this special settings seem to work best with Paypal shipping services.

The last thing we need to do is set PayPal up to print the right label size with the Thermal printer and not your default printer.

If you remember, when you calculate and print shipping labels with PayPal right before paying for the label, you have the option to Edit the Printer Settings. You only have to do this once. Before paying for the label, click on the Edit printer settings link. You will see the menu below.

Here, just click on the Label Printer. Then click on the drop down menu arrow where you can chose the label printer. Chose the Zebra LP2844-Z 4.0" x6.0"

Then click Save. That is telling PayPal to print the label to the right size for that particular printer. When you click save it will take you to the page where you will be able to pay for the label and print it. Just follow the instructions. The printing process is a bit different but the results are much better.

Please let us know if you need further instructions with more pictures.

With this printer we are able to not only print our shipping labels but also our customer's receipts and self stick coupons. That way we can save money to our repeat customers. You can print from any windows program including Internet Browsers. You have to play with the program's printer settings until the print comes out the way you like it.

We now never use our Inkjet or laser printer. Positively saving us a bunch of money in printers, paper, ink and toner.

Endicia.com is another program that works well with eBay, Paypal and Thermal Printers. We have never used them but we have heard good things about them. They mainly help you save time by automatically importing your customers shipping info into the program. They charge a monthly service charge depending on the service you need. if you are a large user you might get the service for free. We believe you have to spend about $5000 in shipping costs in order to get the service charge waived. Please visit their site for more information.

Thermal label printers are special application printers that are designed to print shipping and product labels. They use a printing technology that is specifically designed to the printing of labels. We are going to be talking about a printer that is made by one of the top manufacturers of thermal label printers. Zebra has been making this type of printers for over 20 years and they are used by many of the Fortune 500 companies for their product and shipping labels.

The Zebra LP-2844 Thermal Bar Code Printer is part of Zebra's Desktop class of printers. The LP-2844 is a very ruggedly built printer and it is fully enclosed and it will withstand harsh warehouse environments.

The LP-2844 is a small desktop size printer and it doesn't take up a whole lot of space. Because of its compact design it will fit in small spaces that the large production class label printers from Zebra won't fit. Even though it is made of plastic it will stand up to the hostile environment of a commercial warehouse. The printing mechanism is completely enclosed within the cover and it has a smoked gray colored window so you can check on the amount of labels that are still left.Because it is made almost entirely of plastic the printer doesn't weigh very much. The Thermal Label printer is small, the dimensions of the printer are7.9"/198mm W x 9.4"/238mm D x 6.8"/173mm H and it weighs a mere 3.7lbs/1.7kg.

Speed and Print Quality

Speed in a thermal label printer is measured in how many inches per second that is printed. Since its speed is measured in inches per second, the actual number of labels that it prints per second depends on size of the label being printed. The maximum print speed is 4"/102mmper second.

Printing Technology

Thermal label printers use heat to transfer or create the image on a media or label stock.

Direct Thermal: uses heat that reacts with the specially treated label material to create the image on the paper. With this type of printing you don't use a ribbon to create the image. More than likely you have seen this type of direct thermal printer in your local Walmart or Burger King. Some of the small receipt printers use direct thermal technology to print. The LP-2844 is an example of a printer that use this process.

Uses for this printer

This printer is an extremely versatile and durable little desktop printer. What we mean by that is we can use this printer for a wide range of different uses within our operation. We started out looking for a printer to print all of our shipping labels directly from our existing software program. After completing the initial setup we realized the printer would also work for packages receipts and invoices, self stick coupons for our shipping boxes, envelopes address labels, special offers messages, etc, etc.

The thermal self stick shipping labels are very affordable. You can buy them in our store. If you ship through FedEx and UPS you can order them for free.

The thermal printer paid for itself within the first month of owning it. The money we save in Ink and laser printer toner paid for the printer.

The following instructions will help you download and install the UPSThermal Printer driver program (UPS_319_117.EXE) to your selected directory.

Select the Download the UPS Thermal Printer Driver link below.
When prompted by the File Download - Security Warning dialogue box to choose Run, Save, or Cancel, choose Run. When prompted by the Unknown Publisher Security Warning, "Are you sure you want to run this software?", choose Run.
Select Unzip to extract the files. Once files are extracted, select OK and then select Close to close the window.
Navigate to C:\UPSDrivers and double-click the file setup.exe to start the Installation Utility.
Select the language to install.
When prompted, select the Printer Interface you will be using, then click Next.
USB Connection or Other Connection and click Next. You will be prompted to choose your printer model from a list. Click Next after choosing your printer model and the driver will install.

How to Print Half Shipping Labels Whithout Headers and Footers Information.

We have recently started to offer Half Page Self stick shipping labels to our Valued customers. Recently we had a request for instructions on how to get rid of the Headers and Footers information that get printed by default.

Here are the instructions on how to print your shipping labels without headers and footers. Headers and footers are the information that by default your internet browser print on every page. It can be the page internet address, date, etc, etc. This information is not important to show when you are printing shipping labels.

This instructions where made for the Mozilla Firefox internet browser and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Most of the browsers have similar options.

Firefox, first Click on File/Page Setup Menu in your Internet Browser's.

A new window will show up. Click on Margins & Header/ Footer Tab.

Then click on the drop down arrow and make sure all option boxes show --blank--

This way no information will show on top of bottom of the page. You can also play with the Margins. Depending on your printer this might help with the printing of your shipping label. Then click OK to finalize the changes

Microsoft Internet Explorer instructions.

First click on the file menu if you can see it or click by the Print Icon on the Browser's Top Menu. There is a little drop down menu by the Print Icon. Click on the Page Setup option.

A new window will appear. Clear any information showing in the Header and Footer spaces so it looks like the menu below. Here you can also play with the Margins to make sure your label comes out perfectly. Then click OK to finalize the changes.

Digiweigh XP Series Operator's Manual

It just came to our attention that several of our valued customers did misplaced their Owner's Manual or never got one. The Manual comes printed in a small 4" X 6" white piece of paper. That is very easy to misplace. The letters are so small that many people might need a magnifying glass. We have this information posted here to help all our customers that might have questions about the operation of their Digital Digiweigh Scale.

How to use the scale

Place the scale on a rigid horizontal flat horizontal surface.

Press ON/OFF button to switch on the scale and wait until "0.0" is showed in the display screen. Please make sure the scale is under a environment with a stable temperature.

Put the object(s) on the center of the platform. Wait until the display is stable. The readout equals the weight of the object(s) on the platform.

Press MODE button to choose different weighing units. The scale measures in pounds and kilograms.

Open the flip top for big envelopes or rolls.

HOW TO USE TARE FUNCTION

Tare function can make it easier to weigh tiny things or liquids.

Press ON/OFF button to switch on the scale. Put the container of weighing object(s) on the center of the platform, press TARE button and the screen shows "0.0". Take the container off and put the weighing object(s) in the container and put the container again on the center of the platform.

Wait until the screen is stable, the readout equals the weight of the weighing objects(s).

HOW TO USE HOLD FUNCTION

Your scale is designed with HOLD function for you to weigh big boxes. Just turn on the scale, put the box on the platform, wait 3 seconds until the box is stable on the platform. Press HOLD button to freeze the readout. remove the box and get the readout. Press HOLD again to reactivate the scale.

MAINTENANCE

Avoid any exposure to extreme heat or coldness. Your scale works better when operated at normal room temperature. Always allow the scale to acclimate to normal room temperature for at least one hour before using.

Keep your scale in a clean environment. Dust, dirt, moisture, vibration, air currents and close distance to other electronic equipment may cause an adverse effect on the reliability and accuracy of your scale.

Handle the scale with care. Gently apply all items to be weighed onto tray top. Although this scale is designed to be quite durable, try to avoid rough treatment as this might permanently damage the internal parts. Avoid shaking or dropping the scale. This is a precision instrument and must be handled with care.

For DOA (Dead On Arrival) scales, Digiweigh will pay both shipping for replacing.

Follow the instructions to finish paying the label. When you pay for the label, a new window will Pop Up and you will be able to print your own shipping label.

Please keep in mind that even when you are able to print shipping labels without postage value, many buyers know the cost for shipping through USPS. USPS has standard charges. The other shipping companies like FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc., never show shipping cost value because everyone pays at a different rate.
